SPOKANE, Wash. - Dressed in an all yellow jumpsuit sitting alone in a room at the Spokane County Jail, Craig Ehlo awaited his first court appearance on Friday. Soon he was joined by security, his defense and a prosecutor from the state as a judge determined he can be released on his own recognizance. Ehlo faces a domestic violence and reckless burning charge, a possible felony.

The judge ordered that Ehlo can have no contact with any of his immediate family members. Several friends of Craig Ehlo were in courtroom looking on as the judge made his rulings.

In court documents obtained Friday we learned that the incident took place around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning. It started as a domestic dispute with his wife, Jani. Then he proceeded to walk outside and started his clothes on fire with gasoline. When deputies arrived his two boys were holding him down out of fear that he (Craig Ehlo) was going to hurt himself.

The judge set an arraignment for August 14th where Ehlo will make a plea of guilty or not guilty.

Ehlo played 14 seasons in the NBA for four teams. He was a star player at Washington State University from 1981-1983. Most recently he resigned as an Assistant Basketball coach at Eastern Washington University in early July.

Ehlo also spent time in the broadcast booth helping to call games for the Seattle Supersonics and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
