UPDATE: Fatal Collision North Of Chattaroy On Highway 2

Emergency responders were called to a fatal two-car collision on Highway 2 just north of Chattaroy near Scholmer Rd Sunday morning.

Washington State Troopers say a 1994 Geo Metro was traveling southbound on Highway 2 when it collided with a 2002 Chevy Suburban heading west on Scholmer Road. The driver of the Geo, 18-year-old Jeremiah Smyth of Laclede, Idaho was injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Smyth's passenger, identified as 65-year-old William Smyth was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Suburban, 45-year-old David Petroske of Chattaroy was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The crash is under investigation.

The new program,"SpokaneScape",  gives homeowners the chance to earn a $500 credit on their utility bill by removing 300 square feet of grass in an effort to conserve water. Residents can add rocks, yard art, pathways and several other features to remove grass.
