Indians Go into All-Star Break With a Win

Spokane, WA - Indians second baseman Janluis Castro, a 2013 Northwest League All-Star, belted a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 8th inning to give Spokane a 2-1 victory over the visiting Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in front of 4,676 fans during the Breast Cancer Awareness Day Game presented by Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, KXLY NewsRadio and INHealth.

Kelvin Vasquez had quite the performance, pitching six innings while allowing just two hits -- a solo home run and a bunt single. Vasquez has allowed a total of five hits and one run in his past three starts to help lower his ERA to 2.72. The right hander from the Dominican Republic has a team-leading 48 strikeouts -- a mark good for second in the Northwest League.

Luis Pollorena made his Spokane Indians debut in the seventh inning. Pollorena, who was signed by Texas a month ago, and tossed two innings of one-hit baseball to earn the win. John Straka got his first save of the season, closing out the ninth inning.

Prior to tonight's game, the Indians hosted the eighth annual Pitch for the Cure breast cancer walk to raise money for the Eastern Washington Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Pink jerseys worn by Indians players tonight will be available in an online auction starting Monday at spokaneindians.com.

The Indians will next the next three days off for the Northwest League All-Star break. Castro, David Ledbetter and Eric Brooks will be representing Spokane in the game. The Indians' will then be hosted by the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday, August 8th, before returning home for an eight-game homestand starting on Friday, August 16th for Fireworks Night presented by Inland Empire Toyota, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country and KXLY NewsRadio 920.
