3 Killed While Returning From Funeral

THOMAS, W.Va. (AP) - Police say three people returning to West Virginia from a funeral in Maryland have been killed in a traffic accident.

West Virginia State police Sgt. Christopher Siler says two of the victims were an 8-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. A 20-year-old man also was killed.

Siler says a 29-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl are in critical condition at a hospital in Morgantown.

All five were in a car that crossed the center line and collided with an Asplundh Tree Expert Co. pickup truck. Three people in the truck weren't injured. The victims' names haven't been released.

Siler says the accident occurred around 5 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 219 south of Thomas as the people were returning to Elkins.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump has ignited a firestorm of criticism and charges that he is politicizing the military by faulting a war hero for not capturing al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden sooner. Former CIA director Leon Panetta said Trump owed an apology to retired Adm. William McRaven, who had said Trump's assertion that the news media was the "enemy of the people" was "the greatest threat to democracy" in his lifetime.
