Late Rally Fall Shorts, Spokane's Winning Streak Ends

Spokane, WA - Not even a rally in the bottom of the ninth could help Spokane stretch its winning streak to seven games in front of a soldout crowd of 6,818 fans, as the Hillsboro Hops topped the Indians 7-5 in 10 innings on Fireworks Night presented by Inland Empire Toyota, KAYU FOX 28, 103.9 BOB FM, 790 KJRB and The Current.

With the Indians trailing 5-2 in the bottom half of the ninth, Janluis Castro doubled home Joe Jackson to inch Spokane closer. Then back-to-back wild pitches from Hillsboro's pitcher Will Locante scored Cam Schiller and Castro to force extra frames. In the tenth, the Hops rebounded quickly with two runs to hold off the Indians' comeback.

Left handed Ryne Slack, making his third start this season, never quite found his groove on the mound for Spokane. The South Carolina product allowed 12 hits in five innings while giving up four runs in the process. He struck out six batters as his ERA bumped up slightly to 2.09, still one of the top marks in the Northwest League.

In the first inning, DH Marcus Greene hit his second home run of the season, his first at Avista Stadium. Despite the loss, Spokane still holds a slim lead over the Everett AquaSox in the North Division of the NWL.
