UPDATE: Triumph Lane Fire 30% Contained

Posted: Updated:

Idaho Department Of Lands Press Release:

On the second day of the Triumph Lane Fire, crews were able to establish 30% containment. Flights over the fire provided better mapping and the fire is now confirmed at 675 acres.

The fire has been creeping and burning in brush, grass and pockets of timber 18 miles east of Lewiston. Twenty structures remain threatened along the Kettenbauch Grade Road and Triumph Lane.

Today, crews constructed line and aircraft provided water and retardant.  Resources included 35 personnel, 7 engines, 2 water tenders, and 1 dozer.  Three engines arrive on Wednesday and an additional 20-person crew arrives on Thursday.

Resources will work the fire throughout the night. Tomorrow crews will continue to build line and, as needed, air resources will assist with water and retardant.

With the number of fire vehicles on the road, the George Grade and Kettenbauch Grade at Cottonwood Creek Road are closed to the public.  Local traffic is advised to use caution when driving these roads.

To date, six structures have burned. The fire was reported at 3 p.m. August 19, 2013 and the cause is under investigation.

The Idaho Department of Lands Craig Mountain Forest Protective District is managing the fire. A Type 3 Incident Management Team is in place under the leadership of Gene Phillips, with assistance from the Nez Perce Tribe, Nez Perce County Rural Fire Department and Winchester Rural Fire District.

Previous Coverage:

The Triumph Lane fire in Nez Perce County has burned one trailer home and up to four outbuildings after starting this afternoon and quickly growing to 600 acres with strong winds.

Two structures are immediately threatened and the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Deputies are going door to door to evacuate any people inside.

The fire is burning in grass and brush east of the Nez Perce National Historic Park where U.S. 12 and Highway 95 meet. It is burning in a sparsely populated area near the community of Culdesac.

Forty personnel worked throughout the afternoon on aggressive initial attack of the fire. Seven engines, two water tenders, and one dozer are currently working to contain the fire, with two additional 20-person hand crews ordered and expected to arrive Tuesday.

One helicopter and a single engine air tanker also dropped water on the fire throughout the afternoon, and two heavy air tankers and two helicopters are on order.

Most resources will continue to work the fire throughout the night.

The fire is being managed by the Idaho Department of Lands Craig Mountain Forest Protective District under Incident Commander Gene Phillips, with assistance from the Nez Perce Tribe, Nez Perce County Rural Fire Department, and Winchester Rural Fire District.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
