FIRST ON KHQ: Bank Robbery Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Standoff

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane Police Department Press Release: 

Spokane Police Department has robbery suspect, Scott Ruziecki, in custody after short SWAT standoff near the 600 block of South Arthur St.

On 08-19-13 around 6:30pm Spokane Police Department PACT (Patrol Anti Crime Team) developed information that Scott Ruziecki was inside a residence at 600 S Arthur. They attempted to make contact with him, but he initially refused to exit the residence. SWAT officers and Hostage Negotiators were called to the scene, due to information gathered last week, which indicated Ruziecki was armed and would shoot any law enforcement officer if confronted. Ruziecki later exited the residence without incident around 9:45pm.

Detectives are executing a search warrant for the residence in relation to the 3 robberies of local banks. Police expect to book Ruziecki into jail on his two warrants for 1st Robbery and 1st Theft and also on a new charge of 1st Robbery.

Police have taken bank robbery suspect Scott Ruziecki into custody following an hours long standoff near 8th and Arthur.

Spokane Police have the area around 8th and Arthur on the lower south hill blocked off right now for an investigation. Police say they believe that 41-year-old Scott Ruziecki, a suspect in a recent bank robberies, has barricaded himself inside a home in the area. 

A SWAT team is on scene and police are trying to establish contact.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton says additional details will be announced at a news conference Friday afternoon. Twenty-six-year-old Shawneeq Carter was found dead inside the Woodbury home of an acquaintance on Sept. 23.
