Daughter Of Spokane Murder Victim: 'We Are Counting The Days Until We Can Begin To Heal'

SPOKANE, Wash. -

It's now been more than 15 months since Sharlotte McGill was brutally murdered while walking her dog near her East Spokane apartment. Her daughter, Billie McKinney, was one of the first people to call 9-1-1 as she arrived at her mother's side after she'd been stabbed several times.

But she's still waiting for justice.

As another scheduled court hearing draws near for her mother's accused killer, Avondre Graham, there is still no trial date set pending the outcome of a mental health evaluation, which has delayed at least two court hearings already this summer. Court records show Graham confessed to the murder when arrested by Spokane Police after they say he attacked two other women along the Centennial Trail.

As she awaits resolution in the case, McKinney released this new statement to KHQ's Kelsey Watts:

"I would first like to say that I am incredibly grateful to see the man that murdered my mother in custody. I understand that many families never get to see any form of Justice in the murder of a loved one.

That being said, these last 15 months have felt like an eternity, and by far have been the hardest of my life. Since the killer has been caught I get by the best I can. Every night I pray that the man that killed my mother will see justice someday. The wait is agony. What little sleep I manage to get is in fear.

From what I understand there is some community support for the man that killed my mother. It seems some have forgotten a woman was savagely murdered. A woman who was just out walking her dog on a Thursday morning by the Spokane River.

Sharlotte McGill would have done anything for anybody. I ask anyone supporting Avondre Graham to please consider that Sharlotte was stabbed NINE times in the face, neck, arms and chest. She was helpless and terrified, screaming for help and begging for mercy. Her killer showed her no mercy. Please consider that Sharlotte was a good person, a hard worker, and a loving mother. No human being deserves what happened to Sharlotte McGill.

A lot of people loved my mother. She is missed by so many that are patiently awaiting some justice to her senseless murder. Also, the community is waiting to see some justice. This was a random murder that happened in a popular area. It could have been anybody. Some people are starting to think the justice system has forgotten about Sharlotte McGill. We are counting the days until we can begin to heal."
