Indians Offense Comes to Life in Rout of Dust Devils

Posted: Updated:

Spokane, WA - Ryan Cordell let 4,079 fans at Avista Stadium know that he was finally back and healthy with the first pitch he's seen in over a week, as the right fielder hammered a three-run home run in the first inning to help Spokane top the Tri-City Dust Devils 10-4 on Hawaiian Night presented by CenturyLink, Rock 94.5 and ESPN 700/ESPN 1080.

Cordell's homer was part of a five-run first inning for the Indians, and it followed Janluis Castro's grounder - which was misplayed by the Dust Devils - that scored two more runs. But the Indians weren't done there. Castro, Joe Jackson and Jordan Akins combined for four more RBIs in the second inning to help push the game out of reach and secure the win for starter Eric Brooks.

Brooks, who shutout the Dust Devils the last time they met on Aug. 15, tossed five innings and gave up only one run while matching a season-high six strikeouts. His performance helped lower his ERA to a season-low mark of 3.50. Richard Alvarez, the Northwest League Pitcher of the week, closed out the game while allowing two runs.

With the win, the Indians maintain their spot at the top of the Northwest League's North Division.

Thursday, August 22nd will be Garage Sale Night presented by Premera Blue Cross, 101.1 Rock 'N' Rolls Greatest Hits, 1050 The Key and North Idaho Wellness. The Indians are cleaning out their storage unit, and offering fans the unique opportunity to purchase the contents. All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. Stick around after the game and Circle the Bases courtesy of Supercuts.
