Chief's Statement Re: Arrest of Murder Suspect Adams-Kinard

I would again, like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Delbert Belton, a WWII veteran who served our country with honor in Okinawa.

On Monday morning, just after 3 am, members of the Spokane Police Department's Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) arrested Kenan Adams-Kinard. He was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with 1st Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Murder.

Last Friday, August 23rd, Spokane Police arrested the first of the two suspects, also a 16 year old male and charged him with 1st Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Murder.

I would like to assure our community that the two individuals we believe were responsible for the robbery and murder of Mr. Belton have been taken into custody.

Since receiving the initial call on Wednesday night, the Spokane Police Department has been working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the suspects in this homicide.

Throughout the weekend, Major Crimes Unit detectives received numerous tips, worked closely with members of the faith-based community, and with the Adams-Kinard family to encourage Kenan Adams-Kinard to turn himself in and to gain information regarding his whereabouts.

Early Monday morning, PACT received information regarding Adams-Kinard's location. Police officers responded to the location, an apartment in the 500 block of W. Montgomery, in Spokane and Adams-Kinard was taken into custody without incident.

Three other young people who were with Adams-Kinard have been taken into custody and charged with rendering criminal assistance to evade police apprehension. 1st Degree Rendering is a Class B Felony.

The Spokane Police Department, is committed to protecting the community and bringing those who harm or threaten our residents to justice. This morning's arrest, and the arrest last week demonstrate the professionalism and dedication of our police officers.

UPDATE: In a press conference on Monday morning the Chief of the Spokane Police Dept said that the motive for the Delbert Belton beating incident was robbery, race was not a factor. Straub also talked about the capture of Kenan Adams-Kinard. Staub says that the Kenan's family was very helpful in his arrest.

UPDATE: Spokane's police chief Frank Straub will hold a news conf. at 9:30 this morning addressing the recent arrest of the second suspect in the deadly beating of veteran Delbert Belton. KHQ.com will cover the event LIVE.

UPDATE: 16-year-old Kenan Adams-Kinard, a suspect in the robbery and murder of 88-year-old WWII veteran Delbert Belton, was arrested just after 3 am Monday morning in a basement apartment at 500 W. Montgomery in Spokane without incident.

Adams-Kinard was arrested on 1st Robbery and 1st Murder Warrant. Several other people with him have been arrested for rendering criminal assistance.

Last week, on 8/23. Spokane Police arrested the first of the suspects, 16 year old Demetrius Glenn. Glenn is charged with 1st Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Murder and is expected to make his first court appearance today.

UPDATE: Glenn will make his first appearance Monday on charges of 1st degree Murder and 1st degree Robbery in the death of Delbert Belton.

UPDATE: Glenn, one of the 16-year-old suspects in the Delbert Belton case, will be tried as an adult.

UPDATE: There's been a discrepancy on how to spell Glenn's first name. The County Clerk says that Glenn's first name is spelled Demetrius. They're working on changing court documents which has his first name spelled two different ways.

UPDATE: The second suspect police are looking for is identified as Kenan Adams-Kinard.

UPDATE: Court documents are spelling Glenn's first name two different ways. We're working on clarifying that for you.

TWEET FROM ALEX ROZIER: Looking at Demetrius Glenn's criminal history: malicious mischief 3rd,4th degree assault, driving w/o license. Glenn also had an issue involving "riot with a deadly weapon."

BREAKING UPDATE FROM ALEX ROZIER: The 16-year-old arrested in the Delbert Belton case is identified as Demetrius Glenn, he's facing 1st degree murder and robbery.
