KENNEWICK, Wash. -- For the Kennewick Lions, the bar is high for 2013. Kennewick won the inaugural Mid-Columbia Conference football title last season, surpassing the Kamiakin Braves on the final game. The MCC competition was very tough, but the Lions managed to outscore their opponents by 90 points total. Head coach Bill Templeton says consistency will equal success this season.

"Well this time of year everybody is undefeated. We're all excited. Each team in this area thinks they have a shot and when it comes down to it, it's going to be the teams that consistently make plays, and play with enthusiasm and are tough," Templeton stated.

"We're the East Kennewick Uglies, and people interpret that how they will. We use that as a strength of ours. Some people think it's a negative. We take that as a positive. We're rough and tumble, we'll come and get you," Kennewick senior lineman Eathan Raebel added.

Not to be out-done, Kamiakin thinks highly of its chances this year. Confidence shows in the perennial powerhouse. Late-season injuries last year damper ed the Braves' hopes, but now Kamiakin has the pieces in place once again to succeed this year.

"You know we're still learning that a little bit. I know we got a really good offensive line and a really good running back, but we also have a pretty dang good quarterback and some good receivers so I think the first couple are going to be key for us to see where we're going to be at. Hopefully we're a balanced team, hopefully we're a little bit of both so if we can get that going it's going to make us a better football team" Kamiakin head coach Scott Biglin said.
