Friends Gather To Remember WWII Vet Beaten To Death

Thursday night Spokane Police continued their search for the men they say are responsible for the brutal attack of an 88-year-old man in north Spokane Wednesday night.

Thursday evening KHQ had a chance to speak with friends of the WWII vet known as "Shorty." It was a difficult day at the Eagles Lodge Aerie #2 on North Addison. News spread quickly  of the loss of one of their most beloved members.

Wednesday night 88-year-old Delbert Belton sat in his car just outside the lodge waiting for his caregiver to play pool, which he did every week. Around 8:00pm, Delbert was attacked by two men as he sat in his car.

As his caregiver arrived she saw the two suspects running and found Delbert unconscious and bleeding in his car. After calling 911, the former Marine was taken to the hospital where unfortunately he died from his injuries.

The manage of the Eagles Lodge says the Eagles hope to have a memorial for family and friends remembering Delbert.

Police say the two are black men in their late teens or early 20s, they were wearing black clothing and last seen running west near the Lowes on North Division.

Anyone with information on the two men is asked to call Crime Check at 456 2233.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Feel like you have to keep swatting bugs away when you've been walking outside this week? What you might be calling gnats, are really blue ash aphids. And right now they are more active than ever, because it's mating season. KHQ met a couple who noticed the blue ash aphids right when they started their walk in the park.

A homeowner in Missouri comes face to face with a rather unconventional burglar. Richard Blackwell says he awoke to a noise in his house around 9am. Thinking it was a relative, he looked downstairs to find his front door kicked in and a snack of milk and cookies sitting on the counter. He heard someone in the shower, and armed himself before waiting outside. Blackwell waited ten minutes for the burglar to finish his shower.
