Fire At Garry Middle School Quickly Extinguished

Spokane Fire Department Press Release: 

Saturday night, the Spokane Fire Department responded at approximately 11:50 PM to 725 E Joseph, Gary Middle School, on a reported structure fire. The first crew on-scene reported smoke and fire showing from a 1st floor entrance on the east side of the school. Further investigation found a fire had started at or near a metal entrance door that contained a Plexiglas panel. The fire was quickly extinguished prior to spreading to the interior of the school however the melted plastic panel sent heavy smoke throughout the northeast section of the structure. Fire fighters were on scene for approximately one hour completing ventilation and salvage and overhaul. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. 28 firefighters responded to this incident

Cause:

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the SFD Special Investigation Unit.

Damage:

Fire damage was confined to the entrance door on the east side of the school with smoke damage throughout the north east corner of the structure.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Police Department set up a bike sting in the Mission and Hamilton area on Wednesday in an effort to reduce property crime numbers and ended up making three arrests.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Police Department set up a bike sting in the Mission and Hamilton area on Wednesday in an effort to reduce property crime numbers and ended up making three arrests.  The area has seen numerous calls for thefts, burglaries, drug calls and assaults recently, according to the Spokane Police Department and the sting operation was put together by SPD Reserve Officers wanting to do their part to curb crime in the community.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says officials are targeting wide swaths of land -  including cutting down small trees and underbrush and setting controlled fires - to reduce the frequency and severity of fires now burning across the western United States.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police have arrested a man for homicide by abuse after an investigation of an infant’s death. The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Erik Sherman. On August 7th, an infant had been taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, the infant passed away. The lead Detective developed probable cause to arrest Sherman for homicide by abuse.
