Firefighters Investigating House Fire West Of Riverside

Crews spent Monday night mopping up the scene of a house fire that was still smoking nearly three hours after the first firefighters responded.

The initial call came in around 7:30pm Monday night of a fire burning inside a home on the 1700 block of E. Deer Park-Milan Road.

The first crews on scene saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story home and immediately called for backup. Firefighters had to take a defensive attack on the fire as access and space for equipment was limited near the home at the end of a narrow gravel driveway.

Eventually they were able to put the fire out and keep it from spreading to any nearby trees or outbuildings. There is extensive damage throughout the home including a large hole in the roof and a collapsed porch. The husband and wife who were at home at the time tell investigators they were cooking dinner and fell asleep.

Luckily they were able to make it out safely. Crews will be on scene throughout the night overhauling the home.

That sounds about right for the area, right? Well this house is a bit of a fixer upper. The kind with lots of potential if you invest the time and money.  Currently, however, it is shown on the real estate site Redfin in less than perfect condition.
