Silvertips Top Chiefs In Shootout, 3-2

EVERETT, Wash. -

The Spokane Chiefs lost in a shootout Saturday night against the Everett Silvertips, 3-2. The score was 2-2 at the end of regulation and neither team scored in the overtime period.

2013 CHL Import Draft selection Dominic Zwerger, a forward from Dornbirn, Austria, scored his first career WHL goal at the 5:41 mark of the 3rd period. The goal, assisted by Jeremy McIntosh and Keanu Yamamoto, put the Chiefs up 2-1. The Silvertips responded late in the 3rd with a power play goal by C Manraj Hayer, tying the game and forcing overtime.

After the scoreless overtime period, the Silvertips prevailed in the six-round shootout, with Hayer netting the final and winning goal.

Chiefs goaltender Garret Hughson saved 12 of 12 shots faced in 31:38 of ice time, while Trevor Martin stopped 8 of 10 in 33:22.

The Chiefs played 12 WHL rookies in their 2nd preseason contest of the 2013-14 season. They face the Seattle Thunderbirds on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Everett.
