AMBER ALERT OVER: 14-Year-Old Girl Found ALIVE!

Posted: Updated:

ELLENWOOD, Ga. (AP) - A police chief says a 14-year-old girl has been found alive, more than a day after she was abducted from her family's Georgia home during a robbery.

Clayton County Police Chief Gregory Porter says Ayvani Hope Perez has been found safe in Conyers, outside Atlanta, and reunited with her family. He also says two suspects are in custody.

Federal, state and local officials had been searching around the clock for Perez. She was taken from her home around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday by two men who had demanded money and jewelry. The burglars also shot and killed the family's dog.

Police say the girl's mother tried to hide the teen and her 15-year-old brother, but the armed men found them in the house.

PREVIOUS STORY:

NBCNEWS.COM - A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued for a 14-year-old Georgia girl kidnapped by two gunmen who shot the family dog during a home invasion robbery, police said.

Ayvani Hope Perez — last seen wearing blue and gray Star Wars pajama pants and a superhero shirt — is believed to be in extreme danger.

Authorities said she was snatched about 2 a.m. Tuesday after two armed men broke into her home in Ellenwood, a suburb of Atlanta.

"The mother actually tried to hide the two kids," Clayton County police officer Phong Nguyen told NBC affiliate WXIA.

"There was a little dog in the house and it started barking so the intruders shot the dog. They demanded money and jewelry from the mother," he added.

The mother said she didn't have any cash of value "so instead they kidnapped the 14-year-old girl."

Police said the armed suspects were driving a grey Dodge or Chevrolet.
