UPDATE: Early Morning Police Chase Ends With Man Custody

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT:

On 10-3-13 around 4:00 am Spokane Police officers were advised that Airway Heights Police officers were engaged in a high speed pursuit with a stolen vehicle and the fleeing vehicle was headed towards Spokane. 

In order to protect public safety and to stop the pursuit, Spokane Police officers set up spike strips at 3rd/Monroe (where the vehicle was heading) to disable to fleeing vehicle. The driver, 21-year-old Jesse Woodward, jumped out of the vehicle once it had been disabled by the spike strips near 5th/Washington and fled on food.

Spokane Police Department officers quickly set up a perimeter. A Spokane Police K-9 located Woodward hiding in a plastic barrel behind a nearby apartment complex. Woodward was arrested by Airway Heights Police for Attempt to Elude, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and an outstanding Reckless Endangerment warrant.

Through interagency cooperation and quick police response, a dangerous, high-speed pursuit was quickly ended and a suspect was taken into custody.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Early Thursday morning a man led police on a chase from Airway Heights all the way to 5th and Washington. Police saw his vehicle driving around and recognized it was stolen. When they attempted to pull the car over, the man refused and a chase ensued.

At times speeds exceeded 100mph. The driver even drove the wrong way down Sprague and ran a red light. At 3rd and Monroe police spike stripped his tires and soon after that, the man in the car bailed and took off on foot. A K-9 unit was brought and the man eventually surrendered near 5th and Washington without incident.

    FORDLAND, Mo. - Investigators say a worker was killed on a tower after it collapsed in a field in Fordland, Mo. KY 3 TV reports that 56-year-old Steve J. Lemay from Washington state died in the collapse.  Firefighters say a crew of seven were working at the tower when it fell. Three suffered minor injuries.     SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A 17-time convicted felon tried to hide out in a laundromat to avoid arrest on Wednesday. It didn't work.  The Sheriff's Office says a Spokane Valley deputy noticed a car with a damaged windshield pull into a gas station near Sprague and Mullan late Wednesday night. The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Ryan L. Cheers, left the car running and walked into the gas station.
