Vet Murder Suspect Possibly Writes Confession Letter

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane County Prosecutor's office released a letter to KHQ Thursday in which the writer details the late August beating death of World War II veteran Delbert Belton.

The letter appears be signed by Kenan Adams-Kinard, one of the two 16-year-olds that is accused of beating Belton to death on August 21st, 2013. Whether Adams-Kinard actually wrote the letter is still unclear, but it is part of evidence in the First Degree Murder case against Adams-Kinard and Demetrius Glenn.

The letter is hand-written on regular 3-hole punched notebook paper, the kind used in most schools across the country.

Adams-Kinard's defense attorney told KHQ Thursday that he believes the letter was written by a female and plans to get handwriting analysis to prove his Adams-Kinard did not write the letter. Prosecutors and police will not comment.

Prosecutors say on August 21st, the two went to the Eagles Lodge, where Delbert Belton was waiting in his car for a friend inside. Prosecutors believe the two 16-year-olds intended to rob Belton, and when he fought back, they started beating him. The beating was so severe Belton had injuries that would ultimately prove fatal the next day. The 88-year-old was pronounced dead August 22nd. During his memorial service on August 30th, Belton's family opted for a closed casket because, they said, his injuries left him unrecognizable.

Demetrius Glenn turned himself in to police custody shortly after the attack. Kenan Adams-Kinard was found hiding in a home Monday, August 26th. The alleged confession letter was also found in that same home.

Glenn and Adams-Kinard face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery. Both pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Their trial begins Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.
