UPDATE:

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada middle-schooler says a student who opened fire, injuring two classmates, aimed a gun at his chest before a teacher stepped in. The teacher was shot and killed.

Jose Cazares tells NBC's "Today" show that he initially thought the gunshots he heard Monday morning at Sparks Middle School were firecrackers.

But then he says he saw the boy shoot two students. He says he would've been next if teacher Michael Landsberry hadn't stepped in to try to stop the rampage.

Jose's mother called Landsberry a "true hero."

Authorities haven't provided a motive for the shooting. It's not known where the boy got the gun, which he used to kill himself.

UPDATE:

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Police say a Nevada middle school boy used a semi-automatic handgun to wound two students and kill a math teacher before turning the weapon on himself.

The shooting occurred about 15 minutes before the opening bell at Sparks Middle School on Monday. The student's name wasn't released, and his motive for the shooting wasn't known.

Teacher Michael Landsberry was being hailed as a hero for trying to protect children from their gun-wielding classmate outside the school. Twenty to 30 horrified students witnessed the shooting as they returned to classes from a weeklong fall break.

The shooting erupted outside Sparks Middle School shortly before classes began this morning. Two other students were critically injured in the incident. They were both taken to a nearby hospital, where one is out of surgery. Police say the other as doing well.

In years past, in an effort to combat Black Friday, they've had people send them $5 and literally sent nothing in return. Just like they said they would.  They've also mailed people poop in a box. 30,000 bought it.  They've even raised $100,000 to dig a giant hole in the ground.

OMAK, Wash. - I can picture the Austin Powers bit now.  The people of Omak looking up at the sky and seeing a giant (Fill in the blank innuendo here) just like in 1999's Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. If you're unfamiliar, I'll save you a Google search.  A simple, yet effectively funny joke.  Except the U.S. Navy doesn't see humor in the real-life version at all.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - At first, it was an orange traffic cone with a weed growing out of it. Now, the roadside attraction dubbed "Cone Weed" is something of a Christmas miracle to locals. WBTV reports someone decorated the "Cone Weed" with tinsel and ornaments last week. The weed has been growing unencumbered across from the Huntersville Fire Station for a year and has amassed a cult following.
