by Eastern Washington Univ. athletics

CHENEY, Wash. -- Former Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year Collin Chiverton has joined the Al Maseerah basketball team in Saudi Arabia, adding to the long list of former Eagles currently in the professional ranks.

Chiverton, who played the past two seasons for the Eagles, will join the team for its upcoming season in the Saudi Arabia Premier League. Chiverton averaged 10.8 points in 24 games last season, and 13.9 as a junior in 2011-12 when he was the Big Sky's Newcomer of the Year and an honorable mention All-Big Sky selection.

His signing brings to 21 the number of former Eastern players who have been on rosters of professional teams within the last year.

The most notable of the group is Rodney Stuckey, who played for the Eagles in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Although he is currently out with an injured thumb, he is entering his seventh season with the Detroit Pistons of the NBA. In his career, Stuckey has played in 410 regular season NBA games (260 as a starter) with averages of 13.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

This year's Eagle team opens the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2:05 p.m. against Pacific University from Forest Grove, Ore.
