Pullman Police Make Arrests In Home Invasion Robbery

PULLMAN, Wash. -

Pullman Police Department Press Release:

PULLMAN – Pullman Police Department arrested two suspects in connection with a home invasion robbery that occurred earlier today. At about 11:30 a.m., Pullman Police responded to a call of a possible robbery in progress in the 800 block of NE Michigan Street in Pullman. A 37-year-old female resident reported that two African American males forced entry into her residence and robbed her at gunpoint of a cell phone, laptop computer, and wallet containing credit cards. The suspects fled prior to the arrival of officers. The victim's next door neighbor reported that he found the suspects on his property just prior to the robbery, and later discovered there was an attempt to burglarize his home. Another nearby resident reported seeing suspicious subjects in a light gray vehicle.

Shortly after the robbery, the victim was notified by her credit card company that her card was being used. A friend of the victim received a text from the victim about the credit card use and observed subjects matching the robbery suspects' descriptions making an unusually large purchase of gift cards at the Pullman Walmart. The friend was able to confirm that the subjects did in fact use the victim's stolen credit card.

At about 1:00 p.m., Pullman officers responded to the Walmart located at 1690 SE Harvest Drive, Pullman, which is less than three miles from the robbery scene. Officers detained seven subjects in two vehicles in the Walmart parking lot after the victim's friend pointed out the vehicles as associated with the subjects using the victim's stolen credit card. One of the vehicles was a light gray vehicle as previously described. Another suspect was found inside Walmart and ran from officers but was caught in the parking lot and detained.

Evidence obtained during the investigation led to the arrest of Daraaraa Waqo, a 22-year-old male, and a 17-year-old male; both provided home addresses in Seattle. Each was arrested on suspicion of First Degree Robbery and First Degree Burglary, both Class A felonies. Waqo was booked at Pullman PD and will be transported to the Whitman County Jail. The disposition of the 17-year-old is pending; he will likely be transported to Martin Juvenile Hall in Spokane.

Pullman officers are preparing and serving search warrants at various locations at the time of this press release. The Washington State University Police Department provided manpower assistance throughout the investigation. Investigators will also be looking into possible connections to a number of other crimes that have occurred since October 31, including a robbery involving a handgun with similar suspect and suspect vehicle descriptions.
