PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CDA POLICE DEPT: Coeur ‘Alene Police arrested Thomas S. Heinbaugh on 11/07/13 for aggravated DUI and felony leaving the scene of an injury accident after he crashed his 1999 Ford F250 into a residence located at 421 E. Hattie Ave at 6:13pm.

Heinbaugh fled the scene of the accident on foot and was later located by officers in the area of Government Way and Anton Ave. He was taken to Kootenai Health for evaluation and was treated for minor injuries. He was arrested and transported to Kootenai County Public Safety Building.

When officers arrived on scene of the crash they saw the truck had crashed through the front of the house and came to rest completely inside the house. The front of the truck also knocked the back wall out of the house, and parts of the wall were suspended in air due to electrical wiring and some boards still partially intact.

An adult female victim  later identified as Sherri Bloom was lying on what appeared to be the floor of the house. She was trapped under what appeared to be part of the couch and a door. Bloom sustained serious bodily injuries and is currently listed in fair condition at Kootenai Health.

Officers observed an adult male victim later identified as Jeffrey Groat trapped underneath the back of the truck. He also sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in good condition at Kootenai Health.

A 10 year-old minor female was located sitting on the floor of the residence near the back of the truck. She also sustained serious injuries. Her name and condition is not available for release to the public due to her being a minor child. All three victims remain in the care of Kootenai Health at this time.

Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Ron Clark expressed his sympathy to the injured family "This is a very tragic and preventable accident. A family has been devastated from the result of a DUI. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and I thank all of our emergency responders for their efforts at this awful scene."

Coeur d'Alene Police responded to the area of 5th & Hattie Thursday night after a truck crashed through a house.

Witnesses tell KHQ that three people were inside the house at the time of the crash, a man, a woman, and a little girl. 

A neighbor down the street heard the crash and ran into the house to find the little girl and the mother inside with serious injuries. We are told the man was trapped under the truck. Authorities say the three have serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police also say the driver of the truck fled the scene immediately following the crash, but was caught a short time later.

Right now authorities with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and the Idaho State Police are processing the scene trying to determine what happened.

Officers remain on scene at 5th and Hattie and are starting the investigative process of the accident scene. The vehicle that struck the residence is a 1999 Ford F250. It was driven by a single male occupant who fled the scene of the accident on foot. Officers located the male who is believed to be the driver of the suspect vehicle in the area of Government Way and Anton Ave. and he is detained at this time. Three victims were inside the residence that was struck by the truck and they have sustained serious injuries.

The victims are and adult male, an adult female, and a female juvenile. All three victims were extricated from the residence by Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and have been transported to Kootenai Medical Center.

No further information on the condition of the victims will be available this evening.

Coeur d'Alene Police officers are currently on scene at 5th and Hattie at a serious accident in which a vehicle drove into the side of a house at 6:15pm. The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department is also on scene and is attempting to extricate occupants of the vehicle and the house. Hattie Ave is closed to traffic as is 5th St. South of Hattie Ave. Citizens are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes.

Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle who fled the scene on foot. He is described as a white male, bald head, wearing a white shirt, and blue jeans.

The Billings Gazette reports that a 39-year-old woman from North Dakota was killed in Sunday morning's crash, which closed Interstate 90 near Park City for about an hour. Montana Highway Patrol Capt. Keith Edgell says a man driving eastbound apparently lost control of the Chevrolet SUV, swerving off the road.
