City Of Spokane Leaf Pickup Begins Sunday

KHQ.COM - It's time to clean up those beautifully colored fall leaves. The City of Spokane will begin its regularly scheduled leaf pickup this Sunday, Nov. 10. Cars parked on the street will need to be removed during the scheduled leaf pickup time. In the event of snow, leaf pick up will stop and then continue when weather allows.

Being aware of the leaf pickup schedule is key to a successful pickup experience.  Knowing when crews are in your area and removing vehicles from the streets ensures your neighborhood is cleared of as many leaves as possible.

Pickup times are as follows for the different areas (for the detailed neighborhood leaf pickup schedule visit http://www.spokanestreetdepartment.org/leafpu.htm):

  • Loadal Crews              7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Packer Crews              7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Hand Pick Crews        after 10 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Streets Director, Mark Serbousek likes to remind citizens, "The City's leaf pickup service is intended to remove only the leaves that naturally fall into the streets. Raked yard leaves should be disposed of properly."

There are many options available to people for disposal of the leaves that have fallen into their yards:

  • Leaves placed in the green yard waste carts, will be collected through the end of the month, Friday, Nov. 30.
  • Leaves can also be taken to the waste-to-energy facility or one of the solid waste transfer stations.
  • Compost leaves.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Laurel or Yanny? This debate all started from an audio clip where people can’t agree what word the voice is saying. We were discussing this in the KHQ Newsroom too and it seems like everyone is split. Some hear “yanny,” some hear “laurel,” and others hear both. So what exactly is going on? Audio specialists say that it’s a poor quality audio clip, but people hear different ranges of frequencies. Dylan Bennett tweeted an explanation ...
