The Eagles are looking to soar over the Pilots tonight in their opener with Portland. The Eagles are looking to soar over the Pilots tonight in their opener with Portland.
The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will begin its season on the road at Portland University tonight, Nov. 8, at 5:15 p.m. PT. The Eagles first home game will be next Saturday, Nov. 16, when Southern Methodist University comes to Cheney.

The Eagles were able to win their only exhibition game against Master's College. Senior forward, Aubrey Ashenfelter, put up 23 points in the match up with the Mustangs and returns as one of the teams leading scorers from last season at 8.0 points per game. Junior guard, Kylie Huerta, had a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists, Huerta finished her sophomore season by starting the final 17 games.

Along with Ashenfelter and Huerta the remaining three starters will be Laura Hughes, Hayley Hodgins and Lexie Nelson for the Eagles. Nelson earned First Team All Big Sky last year, while Hodgins was the Big Sky Freshman of the Year recipient.

EWU was 19-13 and 14-6 in the Big Sky Conference, good enough for a third place finish and trip to the Women's National Invitation Tournament last season. The Eagles fell in double overtime, 65-60, to Washington in the opening round of the WNIT in what was only the second trip to the tournament for the program.

The Eagles first home game will be next Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1:00 p.m. when Southern Methodist University comes to Cheney.
