Four players scored in double figures for Washington State University women’s basketball who posted a 81-72 road victory over Seattle University Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Lia Galdeira led all scorers with 19 points while junior guard Tia Presley added 16 points for the Cougars (1-1) who outrebounded the Redhawks (0-2) 52-40 and knocked down seven threes. Senior forward Sage Romberg and sophomore forward Mariah Cooks each recorded 10 points and eight boards while Romberg also tallied six steals.

The Cougars used a strong first half to gain the early edge, opening the game with a 10-3 run and quickly building a 16-point advantage behind Galdeira who finished with 15 first-half points. WSU scored 14 points off of 11 Seattle turnovers in the first 20 minutes but surrendered an 8-2 run to the Redhawks late in the first half, to see their lead shrink to 41-31 at the half.

Seattle made it an eight-point game early in the second half before Washington State answered with a 9-2 run and play most of the half with a double-digit advantage.

The Redhawks hung around and made things interesting late, erupting for a 15-4 run to get within six, 77-71 with just over a minute remaining. The Cougars turned to their veteran guard in Presley who knocked down her free throws in the final minute to seal up the nine-point victory.

Washington State finished the game shooting 37 percent and tallied 26 second chance points while making 13 steals. Junior center Shalie Dheensaw had nine points and eight boards while sophomore point guard Dawnyelle Awa dished out six assists.

The Cougars will head to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu beginning Friday. WSU will play Hawaii Friday, West Virginia Saturday and Ole Miss Sunday.
