Former NYPD Detective Held In $10M Burglary Case

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A former New York City police detective is one of five men accused of operating a $10 million burglary ring.

Federal prosecutors say Rafael Astacio is also accused of illegally accessing an FBI database as part of the scheme.

Astacio and the four others are expected to make their initial court appearances Thursday in federal court in Central Islip (EYE'-slihp), N.Y.

Astacio's attorney did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.

Police and prosecutors say that between 2009 and 2012, the ring committed dozens of commercial and residential burglaries on Long Island.

In one notable theft, prosecutors say about 45,000 pairs of fashion sunglasses valued at $3 million were taken from a Plainview business.

The ring also allegedly stole approximately $2 million in cash from a plastic surgeon's office.

(AP) - Snow shovels for sale at some Billings-area hardware stores have stickers to warn buyers about the symptoms of a heart attack. Billings Clinic provided the stickers, which urge people with symptoms such as chest pain, nausea, dizziness and unusual shortness of breath while shoveling to call 911. Chest Pain Clinic coordinator Kierra Knox says cold weather constricts blood vessels while the work of shoveling snow puts an increased demand on the heart.
