Ring Owned For More Than 50 Years Is Missing, Owner Pleads For Help

SPOKANE, Wash. -

SPOKANE, Wash. – A small ad for a missing ring in the newspaper, with a big story behind it. Dal Vander Meer of Spokane is missing a gold ring with a big red ruby he has worn for decades. Now, he wants it returned because it is something that has been a huge part of his life.

"Well it's the value of what I earned and what it meant to the company that I was working for," said the ring's owner Dal Vander Meer. "And, of course, the personal thing of having it all those years, wearing it everyday. How it slipped off my finger I don't know, but it did."

Dal Vander Meer, now 83-years-old, was given the ring in the early 1950s. At the time he worked for the company Johnson and Johnson and was awarded the ring by the company's vice president for his job performance.

Since then, he has worn it on his left hand for more than 50 years, until it disappeared last week. Dal has tried to re-trace his steps, but since he does not know exactly where he lost it and went to several places the day it went missing, he has had no luck finding it.

Although to anyone else, it is just a gold ring with a big red ruby, to him, it is a piece of his past and something that cannot be replaced.

"For me it has been a part of my life," Dal said. "There's somebody who has knowledge of where that ring is. All I can say is we would be very grateful to get it back."

Dal is offering a reward for anyone who finds the ring. The ring is gold with a big red ruby. There are also some distinct features on it that only Dal knows about. Therefore, he would be able to prove that it belongs to him. If you have any information, you are asked to call him at 509-534-1288 or call KHQ at 509-4448-4656 and we will connect you with Dal.
