SPOKANE, Wash. -

Two Gonzaga students who were put on probation for having guns inside their university-owned apartment told KHQ that they have filed an appeal.

Eric Fagan and Dan McIntosh told KHQ Monday night:

"We submitted the appeals today. And are now in a waiting game until we hear back. They have given us no information as for how long the wait we be though."

Fagan and McIntosh say they pulled out their gun to defend themselves against a man who was trying to break into their apartment. Hours after the incident, campus police showed up and took the guns.

Gonzaga has a strict "no weapons" policy on campus, and that includes property owned by Gonzaga. The two students say that Gonzaga actually leases the apartments that they live in, so the violation should be taken off their records and the probation should be lifted.

Both students were given their guns back, under the condition that they could not store them in their apartment.
