Chiefs Win In Overtime On Proft Goal

by Spokane Chiefs Media Relations

Things looked grim for the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday night as the Vancouver Giants held a late two-goal, third-period lead at the Spokane Arena.

But that’s exactly when the Chiefs came alive.

With 15:01 remaining, Mitch Holmberg’s backhander found the back of the net after Mike Aviani collected his first assist of the night. It was closely followed by an unassisted slapshot from Jeremy McIntosh forcing overtime on the same night he was featured on the TicketsWest Player Magnet.

Then it was Tyler King’s shot that ended up ricocheting off of Carter Proft’s skate for the game-winner in the extra period. With 3:46 left in overtime, Keanu Yamamoto and Proft found King by himself in the left circle, which led to the Chiefs’ 16th victory.

In the first period, Spokane jumped on the board with two power play goals. Both Aviani and Connor Chartier collected goals in the period which saw six total Vancouver penalties. Aviani now has 21 goals on the season, and Chartier has four. Holmberg added an assist to his goal; he now leads the WHL with 59 total points, nine points more than Portland’s Nicolas Petan.

The Spokane Chiefs will host the Tri-City Americans this Saturday, November 23rd. The game begins at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena. Tickets for all Chiefs games are available via the Chiefs Ticket Office at (509) 535-PUCK, at all TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
