Cougar Basketball Adds Morgan To Signing Class

by WSU Athletics

PULLMAN, Wash. – Jermaine Morgan (6-8, 215, F, Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young HS/ Moberly Area CC) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Washington State University men’s basketball team next season, head coach Ken Bone announced Thursday.

“Jermaine is another quality big that will give us the depth that we need for next season in the front court,” Bone said. “He’s a good solid player at this point in his career, and yet has the ability to add weight and strength which will only enhance his game. We are excited to bring in a player from one of the top junior college programs in the country, Moberly Area CC, which is coached by one of the best coaches in junior college basketball, Pat Smith.”

Morgan currently attends Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Mo., after transferring from Odessa College in Texas following his freshman year. A 2012 graduate of Whitney Young HS in Chicago, Ill., Morgan averaged 10.6 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game as a junior in 2010-11, helping his team to a regional championship and city runner-up finish. As a senior in 2011-12, he averaged 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds on his way to earning all-city and all-State honors.

Morgan spent one season at Odessa College, as the Wranglers finished with a 24-8 overall record and 12-4 conference mark in 2012-13, finishing second in league and reaching the semifinals of the regional tournament. This season at Moberly Area CC, Morgan is averaging 8.5 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting .667 from the field. As of Nov. 16, the Greyhounds held a 5-1 record through their first six games.

Morgan will enter WSU as a junior and joins Tramaine Isabell (6-1, 170, G, Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) who signed an NLI with the Cougars last week.

The 2013-14 Cougars take their first road trip of the season as they make the short trek up to Spokane to take on No. 13/12 Gonzaga, Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
