Holiday Travelers Prepare For Possible Delays, Cancellations

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Travelers across the country are preparing for what could be a long travel weekend for many. Storms across much of the heartland and the northeast has travelers worried who are planning to hit the skies or the roads this holiday weekend.

Triple A estimates that there will be 38.9 million people hitting the road and a little more than 3 million flying. The Northeast has major storms expected and in just the past few days the east coast has seen more than a 1,000 cancellations.

The Dallas Fort Worth area has seen many delays and cancellations as well because of the icy conditions and more problems are expected in the days to come.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office issued a press release giving tips to people who may be out and about this weekend. They say do not leave any wallets, purses or items of value in plain sight. They also say to not leave presents or gifts out if you go shopping. Another tip they recommend is for people to make sure someone is home to accept packages. A lot of times things will get left on the front porch and that is not smart with so many people out and about.
