SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -

SCRAPS announced on Wednesday that one of the horses seized from a ranch in the West Plains back on November 15th has died.

A press release issued by SCRAPS said the horse was a 5-month old colt. The colt was found emaciated and malnourished. The mother was not on the property and SCRAPS says they don't know where she might be.

The colt was one of nearly 90 horses seized from the ranch operated by Janice Hickerson. 63 horses were taken this month from the ranch, and earlier in the year, 26 horses were taken back in July. A warrant has been issued for Hickerson's arrest. She is currently being sought on charges for animal cruelty and confinement in an unsafe manner. If you know where Hickerson is, please contact the Sheriff's Department at 456-2233.

The ASPCA is still helping SCRAPS with the rescue operation and their team member is expected to be in Spokane until the end of December.

Many citizens have been calling asking how they can help. SCRAPS appreciates those who want to volunteer, but at this time they say they cannot recruit volunteers due to liability concerns.

Another frequently asked question from the public is regarding adoption of the horses. SCRAPS says they cannot adopt out any of the horses right now because they are still part of a criminal investigation, but if you'd like to fill out an adoption application for a later date, you can do so by visiting http://www.spokanecounty.org/SCRAPS/

SCRAPS is still accepting donations and they say they are currently in need of: Straw, hay bags, salt blocks, water buckets, grass/alfalfa hay, grooming tools and any monetary donations.
