SPOKANE, Wash. – Despite a valiant effort from the defense and a hat trick from the WHL’s leading scorer, the Spokane Chiefs fell victim to a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Portland Winterhawks on Friday night in front of 6,010 fans at the Spokane Arena.

Mitch Holmberg notched his third hat trick of the season to push his season’s point total to a league-leading 64. Adam Helewka assisted Holmberg on his first two goals. Jason Fram and Liam Stewart tallied helpers on his final goal of the night.

Portland’s Oliver Bjorkstrand also had hat trick on the evening, though his final goal was an empty netter after the Chiefs pulled goalie Eric Williams for an extra skater. Williams stopped 27 of 32 shots, including a series in the third period where he blocked back-to-back point-blank shots before Bjorkstrand found the back of the net.

Portland was 3 for 6 on the power play while the Chiefs could only score once on 3 advantages.

The Spokane Chiefs will head to face the Tri-City Americans tomorrow night for an SWX broadcast that begins at 7:00 PM.

The Spokane Chiefs will host the Seattle Thunderbirds Sunday, December 1st, with a special start time of 5:05. At 3:00 PM, the Spokane Police Department will play a hockey game against the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Doors open at 2:30 for the Police-Sheriffs Game and 4:00 for the Chiefs game.
