Healthcare Workers Prepare For Strike At Deaconess And Valley

SPOKANE, Wash. - With just a few days to go until an impending strike, Deaconess and Valley Hospital nurses and healthcare workers will gather today to prepare for the picket line.  Because Deaconess and Valley continue to refuse calls to stop staffing cuts, the nurses and healthcare workers have set a strike date for 6:00am on Wednesday, December 4. 

The more than 1000 nursing assistants, health unit coordinators, sterile processors, and admitting, dietary and housekeeping staff at Deaconesss and those positions plus nurses at Valley will strike beginning at 6am on Wednesday unless the hospitals agree to a contract that includes improved staff and an end to unfair labor practices. 

"Valley and Deaconess have the power to stop this strike," said Anglea Crigger, a nurse at Valley Hospital and Medical Center. "We are united in calling on our hospitals to stop staffing cuts and end unfair labor practices."

OTHER STRIKE EVENTS/TIMELINE for the week of 12/2:

Wednesday, 6am at Valley Hospital: Members and community supporters walk out of the hospital to begin the strike.

Wednesday, 4pm at Valley Hospital: Community rally in support of the strike.

Thursday, 5:30am at Valley Hospital: Rally and march back into the hospital as workers return and the strike ends.

Liles, with a single gunshot wound.
