Chiefs Cut Off The Blades

The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 on Wednesday, Dec. 4, thanks to two Mitch Holmberg short-handed goals late in the first period. With the win the Chiefs move up to third place in the U.S. Division.

The Blades cut the lead to one only a minute into the second period when Matt Revel found Brett Stovin for the one-timer, but couldn't beat the Chiefs' Eric Williams again for the rest of the night.

Holmberg's goals came after blue-liner Tyler King was given two minutes for tripping. Liam Stewart assisted both scores, with the first coming on a pin-point pass to Holmberg who put it into the shot past Saskatoon's Troy Trombley.

Holmberg almost completed the hat trick in the third period only to have his shot silence the arena by going off of the crossbar.

The Chiefs snapped a three game losing skid with the win and are now only seven points behind first Portland.

Spokane will host Seattle this Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:05 PT, before hitting the rode to face the T-Birds on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Chiefs will look to avenge the 5-1 loss Seattle handed them at the Spokane Arena this past Sunday.
