Leaders usually emerge after years in a supporting role, but not Sierra Perez. After two years at Chiawana, she took her talents and 4.0 GPA to Pasco High School.

‘I feel like you have to be a leader in the classroom and that carries over to basketball. I'd rather do good in grades first because my dad always tells me you're a student athlete, student comes first,' said Perez.

And between basketball and perfect grades, she still finds time to volunteer.

‘I go to Whitman Mission, I give food away, I do Christmas carols at the nursing home, just giving back to the community,' said Perez.

Even though she's new, she's already being heralded as a leader on the court, in the classroom, and with the student body.

‘I have her in history class, she works very hard, she's that girl, 4.0 kid, but she's always asking questions, she's always trying to understand if they assignment's been done right, that translates into basketball. She's always talking, she's in the huddle tonight, talking to teammates, getting things fixed on her own, she's a great leader is what it comes down to,' said Pasco Head Basketball Coach Aaron Barcot.
