KNDU.COM - KENNEWICK, WA - Police are following up on dozens of tips, most coming out of California in the case of a missing Kennewick teenager.

14-year-old Elizabeth Romero has been missing for two days now. She was last seen in Kennewick on Wednesday and a west coast search is underway for her and the 19-year-old man who is now accused of kidnapping her, Edwardo Fabien Flores Rosales. Oregon has deactivated the AMBER Alert there because they do not believe they are in that state.

"Well he is a man. He is an adult. She's a young juvenile female so that already gives us reason for concern. When we start talking to people, family and friends, we're unclear how long she's had any sort of relationship with him," said Sgt. Ken Lattin with the Kennewick Police Department.

Officers believe the two met on Facebook. Romero's last post was on Wednesday, saying 'Buenos Dias.'

We now know Flores Rosales is from Hood River, Oregon. His family claims he left on Thanksgiving, telling them he was moving to Kennewick for a job.

"About three days prior to, so earlier this week, the abduction, he rents a room within a block of her house, pays for a month, stays there three days, packs her up and they're gone," said Lattin.

Surveillance video from outside Phoenix High School is the last time the two were known to be in the Tri-Cities. Police say Romero's family received a phone call from Flores Rosales on Thursday. That phone call originated in California.

"This sounds like the common MO for an adult male who's grooming a young female to take and abduct. So, yes, we think that she willingly got in the car but we think she's been coerced, she's been convinced that they're in love or something like that and off they go," said Lattin.

Viewers commenting on the stories we've posted on Facebook tend to think Romero is with the man willingly. But police are convinced she is in danger.

We learned on Friday that the suspect's vehicle belongs to his brother.

"The vehicle in the video has no license plates. The brother says, I put license plates on it. I recently bought that, I put license plates on it. so, suspect is trying to conceal his identity. That doesn't sound like boyfriend, girlfriend in love and are just going to go to Mexico. This looks like somebody who's trying to cover their tracks," said Lattin.

Lattin also tells NBC Right Now that the girl's mother actually met the suspect and warned her daughter about getting involved with him.

The FBI has taken the lead on this investigation because it is an adult male who has taken a juvenile across state lines.

Flores Rosales also has a warrant out for his arrest for Kidnapping.

PREVIOUS STORY:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - An Amber Alert has been issued for a 14-year-old girl last seen in Kennewick on Wednesday.

Kennewick police say Elizabeth Romero was last seen at 1800 W. 7th Avenue. Officers say they believe she is in danger. Romero is Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5'03" and 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white shirt and dark pants with a backpack and a pink purse.

Police believe Romero is with a 19-year-old man who she calls her boyfriend. They say Romero was last seen leaving school around 11 a.m. and got into Edwardo Fabian Flores Rosale's SUV. Romero's mother reported her as a runaway Wednesday, but on Thursday she received text messages from an unknown number. The text messages stated they were from Elizabeth and said she was heading to Mexico with Rosale. Her mother asked for a picture but she didn't receive one.

Rosales is Hispanic with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5'09" and 225 lbs. Officers say they may be traveling in a dark green, early 2000's Ford Escape with temporary plates.

Police say there is probable cause to arrest Rosales for kidnapping. Officers have alerted the U.S. Border Patrol at the Mexican border.

Anyone with information should call 509-585-4208 immediately.

SPOKANE, Wash. - From the outside, the Repeat Boutique looks like a lot of other thrift shops in Spokane.  Inside, some might describe the stuff for sale as old, used, discarded garbage -- but store manager CJ Curtis sees its potential. And just like the goods in her shop, CJ is on her way to a new life, one far from the one she once lived.
