Business Booming For Plumbers Fixing Pipe Problems

Cold weather has been freezing pipes and keeping plumbers busy in the Inland Northwest Cold weather has been freezing pipes and keeping plumbers busy in the Inland Northwest
SPOKANE, Wash. -

It may be the most wonderful time of the year as the holidays draw near, but there's nothing wonderful about this weather for many families across the Inland Northwest who are dealing with frozen or burst pipes.

The owner of First Response Plumbing told KHQ's Kelsey Watts on a normal day they have 3-6 scheduled appointments. But Monday? They responded to 14 calls. And on Saturday? They got 80.

Another local company, Gold Seal Plumbing, also told KHQ business has tripled. Plumber Ryan Starley said all he did Monday was go from one frozen pipe call to the next, including one where it actually broke inside a home.

"[People should] let their faucets run at night or when they're gone and keep the heat on," Starley added. "Hopefully they know of spots that have frozen in the past and they can pay special attention to those areas."

Starley also said it's a good idea to use heat tape to keep your pipes warm, make sure you have the proper insulation and if you have problem areas that keep giving you trouble year after year, call a professional.

SPOKANE, Wash. - From the outside, the Repeat Boutique looks like a lot of other thrift shops in Spokane.  Inside, some might describe the stuff for sale as old, used, discarded garbage -- but store manager CJ Curtis sees its potential. And just like the goods in her shop, CJ is on her way to a new life, one far from the one she once lived.
