Spokane Police Arrest Suspect After Downtown Shooting

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Less than two days after the initial incident, Spokane Police have arrested 29-year-old Hernandez Morgan in connection with the shooting that occurred behind the Red Lion Tavern in downtown Spokane on Monday evening.

Morgan was booked into jail last night on two counts of 1st Degree Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and a felony Forgery warrant. The initial incident occurred on 12-9-13 at around 6:12 pm. Spokane Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the downtown area near the Red Lion Tavern at Main/Division.

When officers arrived, they found a shotgun casing on the ground behind the business.  A patrol officer in the area observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the scene. After stopping the vehicle, he discovered what appeared to be a shotgun hole in the trunk area of the vehicle.

It was determined the occupants of the vehicle were victims of the incident, although none of them had been shot. Detectives contacted witnesses, processed the scene and identified a person of interest in the incident, Hernandez Morgan.

SPD's Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) and detectives from Spokane Violent Crimes Gang Enforcement Team (SVCGET) actively worked the case and followed up on numerous leads. They located Morgan yesterday evening. He was taken into custody without incident on the Forgery warrant.

Detectives gathered additional evidence and Morgan was later charged with two counts of 1st Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm related to Monday's shots fired incident.

SPOKANE, Wash. - As we all know, solar eclipses have been going on since the beginning of time. Naturally, some myths formed to make sense of some things that may have happened. But NASA wants to correct these misconceptions using science. The first myth is that "if you're pregnant, you shouldn't watch the eclipse because it could harm your baby." NASA says there's no truth to that. This is related to the idea that there is harmful radiation emitted during an eclipse.
