M's Continue Offseason Facelift

First basemen/outfielders Corey Hart and Logan Morrison became the newest additions of the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, Dec. 11, in what has been a busy offseason for the club.

Hart and Morrison join a utility man Willie Bloomquist and second baseman Robinson Cano as the new face of the Mariners has begun to take shape.

Per CBSSports.com Hart signed a one-year deal with the Mariners earlier on Wednesday. Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times has reported that Hart's contract is worth $6 million and is incentive laden up to $13 million.

Hart missed all of last season after having surgery on his right knee. Hart had the best season of his career in 2012 batting .270 with 30 home runs and 84 RBI. The deal is pending a physical. Hart had spent all of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Seattle also traded reliever Carter Capps to the Miami Marlins for Morrison via Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. Capps played in 53 games in 2013, pitching 59 innings with a 5.49 ERA and 66 strikeouts. Capps has a 100-mph fastball and has the potential to be a big arm in Miami's bullpen.

Morrison has a career .249 batting average with 42 career home runs and 162 RBI over the past four seasons. Morrison was once considered the Marlins' best prospect but has fallen off of the radar thanks to back-to-back injury-riddled seasons--the 1B/OF has only played in 178 games over the last two seasons. Morrison's best season was in 2011 when he played in 123 game and finished with 23 home runs and 72 RBI.
