Eagles' Jois Is All Australian

by EWU Athletics Media Relations

Eastern Washington University sophomore forward Venky Jois from Boronia, Australia, will be mentioned on an ESPN broadcast this weekend on the "All-Aussie" team selected by analyst Fran Fraschilla.

The squad will be revealed by Fraschilla during the New Mexico/Kansas game on Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN2. In fact, Eastern is tied with Maine and Nicholls State for the most foreign players in NCAA Division I with seven (3 from Australia, 3 from Germany, 1 from Serbia).

In addition, Jois was selected by College Hoops Daily to its All-Big Sky Conference Team for the month of November. Jois helped lead EWU to a 5-2 record in the month -- the school's best start to a season in five years.

Jois averaged 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.3 blocked shots in the month of November. Jois, who was featured earlier this year by College Hoops Daily, and his Eagle teammates host UC Irvine this Sunday (Dec. 15) at 2:05 p.m. at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.

The Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year a year ago, Jois joined teammate Tyler Harvey on the All-Tournament team at the 2K Sports Classic in November. Jois averaged 15.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while making 56.3 percent of his shots from the field in three tournament games.

He is currently EWU's second-leading scorer through eight games with a 14.5 average. He is also averaging a team-leading 7.6 rebounds, as well as 2.8 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. He has 11 double-doubles in his career, including two this season in November (22 points and 11 rebounds against Pacific and 19 points and 10 rebounds versus Seattle). He had nine double-doubles as a freshman to rank among the leaders in NCAA Division I.
