On Good Old Route 66 With Sam Adams

Greetings from the Land of Enchantment. The last 24 hours have been interesting to say the least. As we all know, Washington State had to wait a full decade to play in a bowl game. The trip here to Albuquerque felt nearly as long.

They say misery loves company, and I made some great friends during our travels from Spokane to Albuquerque. I met Chris, a 2012 WSU grad, at Spokane International as we waited some three hours for our belated plane to arrive from Boise. Once we landed in Phoenix, we had another three-hour wait for our connecting flight, but ran into a large contingent of Coug fans who were probably somewhere in their 60's, but were every bit as enthusiastic as young Chris.

Once we finally touched down at around 10:30 Mountain Time, we got our first taste of Southwestern hospitality. From the airport to the rental car terminal to the hotel, we were greeted with a smile and a handshake wherever we went. It's like we never left Spokane!

In case you missed it, we were all over town this morning (Friday) for the 5-7 am shows. Our journey started at Nob Hill, a swank commercial district that stands on the former site of Route 66. Denifintely a must see.

Dave, our camera man, and I decided to fuel up at Golden Crown Panaderia, a world famous bakery in Old Town. Pratt, Christopher, and Dave were kind enough to send us on our way with empanadas and other Southwestern delicacies that I can neither spell nor pronounce. But they were incredible. Again, a must visit.

We wrapped up our morning at University Stadium, site of Saturday's bowl game. Finally, our first taste of football. You know how they say the grass is greener on the other side? It's true. I swear, this is the greenest grass I've ever seen. Keep in mind, this is artificial turf... but it is... green. You'll have to take my word for it, but hopefully it translates when you watch the broadcast on Saturday.
