Currently riding a four-game winning streak and an umblemished record in December, the Eastern Washington women's basketball team begins Big Sky play at home versus Dam Cup rival Portland State on Sunday, Dec. 29. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. PST.

The Eagles and Vikings play annually for the Dam Cup trophy, so named because there are four dams that separate the two campuses. Each time the two teams play, points are on the line, and whichever school has the most points by the end of the basketball season wins the trophy. Each women's basketball game is worth two points, with 11 total points needed to claim the trophy.

For the first time in the rivalry's history, fans can influence the outcome of the Dam Cup through social media. Fans can visit DamCup.com for more information.

EWU leads the all-time series versus Portland State, 28-22, and is 17-7 all-time against the Vikings in Reese Court. Head coach Wendy Schuller owns a 16-12 career mark against PSU, including a 10-3 record when facing the Vikings in Cheney.

Eastern (4-5) is coming off an impressive 15-point win over Boise State last Friday, Dec. 20. The Eagles shot a season-best 53.2 percent from the field, including a blistering 59 percent in the second half. The last time EWU completed an undefeated December was during the 2004-05 season when the Eagles went 6-0, including a victory over PAC-12 member Washington State.

Junior guard Lexie Nelson poured in a career-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting. The Broncos' defense keyed on her throughout the game, holding her scoreless for the first 10 minutes before she exploded for 12 first-half points. Three other Eagles reached double-figures against Boise State, led by sophomore guard Hayley Hodgins' 14 points. Senior forward Aubrey Ashenfelter added 12 points and four assists while senior center Laura Hughes chipped in 10 points and a game-high six rebounds.

EWU leads the Big Sky in field goal percentage, shooting at a 44.6-percent clip. Eastern also paces the league in three-point percentage, knocking down 37.5 percent of its shots from long range. Hughes leads the conference in field goal percentage while Nelson owns the league's best three-point percentage.

The Eagles also rank second in the conference in assists per game and third in assist-turnover ratio. Junior guard Kylie Huerta leads the Big Sky with a 2.8 assist-turnover ratio and ranks seventh in asissts with an average of 4.1 helpers per game.

Portland State (2-7) is in the midst of a four-game skid, most recently falling to Portland, 76-49, last Saturday, Dec. 21. The Vikings are 0-3 on the road so far this season, having lost to Gonzaga, Oregon and Georgia Tech. Kate Lanz (12.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.3 apg) and Allie Brock (11.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) lead PSU's attack while Angela Misa (9.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg), last year's Big Sky Newcomer of the Year, is the team's leading rebounder.
