SPOKANE, Wash. – Mitch Holmberg did what he does best as the right wing became the first player in the WHL to reach 40 goals this season, collecting two in the third period of the Chiefs’ 5-3 win over the Victoria Royals on Friday night at Spokane Arena.

Holmberg now has 258 career points, which pushes him further up the Chiefs' all-time scoring list. He was previously tied with Brandin Cote at 255, but his 40th and 41st goals – and 39th assist – of the season sent Holmberg solely into 12th place.

After Markson Bechtold scored his first goal of the season for Spokane in the first period, Victoria quickly struck to tie the game back up before the break. But Dominic Zwerger and Cole Wedman both found the back of the net in the second period to hold onto the Spokane lead. Zwerger’s goal came off assists from Mike Aviani and Holmberg, and Wedman’s came thanks to Connor Chartier and Liam Stewart.

Spokane's league leading power play was a solid 2 for 4 on the night. The Royals came away with one power play goal on six chances. The Chiefs outshot Victoria 41-27, including a 17-10 advantage in the final frame.

Spokane returns to the Spokane Arena tomorrow night, Saturday, January 4th, to host the Everett Silvertips. The first 2,000 fans and all full-season tickets holders in attendance will receive the Coca-Cola Spokane Arena Replica, complete with a removable roof.

Tickets for all Chiefs home games are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK, via TicketsWest outlets and online atwww.ticketswest.com.
