UPDATE: Early Morning SWAT Standoff Near Medical Lake OVER

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: Early Tuesday morning at approximately 2:20 a.m., a cell phone call was placed to 911but only voices in the background could be heard.  A crying female's voice was heard asking for help and she mentioned a firearm.  A male's voice was also heard before the call was disconnected.

Spokane County Sheriff's deputies were immediately dispatched to the area of the 7100 block of S. Bartholomew Rd. using only the coordinates of the cell phone since an actual address was not heard during the call.

Soon after deputies began checking the location, they heard a male yelling and a female screaming from inside a small trailer located behind a barn. When they identified themselves, everything became quiet and no one would answer the door.

The Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and negotiators were called to the scene while deputies continued to try and make contact. Several more announcements were made using a PA system without any response.

SWAT team members, fearing the female was in danger and being held against her will, forced entry into the trailer and successfully took the male, identified as 54-year-old Derwood J. Fannin, into custody without injury.

Detectives, investigating this incident, interviewed the adult female victim who was uninjured and cooperative. Fannin was charged with False Imprisonment (Domestic Violence) and addition charges are expected as the investigation continues.

ORIGINAL STORY:

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - SWAT responded to a 911 call Tuesday morning from an RV home near Medical Lake near Bartholomew Road. The call came in around 2:30am. Dispatchers heard a woman screaming about a gun over the phone.

When officers arrived on the scene they tried to enter the RV home but the door was barricaded. They knew people were inside of the home but the windows were dark and the people inside were not responding. This prompted police to call SWAT.

Just before 6am, Deputy Mark Gregory of the Spokane County Sheriffs Office told KHQ that police had entered the home and were detaining a male and female.

The male is 54-year-old Derwood Fannin and he is being held on domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment charges. Deputy Mark Gregory tells us he suspects there will be more charges after the investigation is complete. He also suspects there will be a search warrant for their home.

We do not know the identity of the female at this point but she is still talking to police.

Bartholomew Rd. is still blocked off, and there is still a heavy police presence on the scene. Police urge those traveling on highway 902 to drive slowly as there is a lot of police activity.

NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
