Bulldogs Drop From AP Poll, 24th in Coaches' Poll

By Gonzaga University Athletics

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University's men's basketball team fell six spots to No. 24 in the USA Today rankings Monday.

The Bulldogs are in the "also receiving votes" category in the Associated Press Top 25 after being ranked 22nd last week. The drop in the polls came as a result of an 82-73 setback suffered by the Bulldogs last Thursday at the University of Portland, the only outing of the week for the Zags (14-3, 4-1).

Gonzaga has been ranked in all 11 USA Today polls this season and had been in the Top 25 of the AP poll for the first 10 weeks.

The squad heads to California this week to face Pepperdine University Thursday and Loyola Marymount University Saturday in a pair of West Coast Conference games.

The loss at Portland snapped a 22-game WCC winning streak by the Bulldogs and a 20-game winning streak against Portland.

The University of Arizona remained atop both polls, receiving 61 of 65 first-place votes in the AP balloting of sportswriters and 30 of 32 first-place votes in the USA Today voting of coaches. No. 2 Syracuse received the other four first-place votes in AP with Syracuse and No. 4 Michigan State University each receiving a first-place vote in the USA Today poll.
