Homeowner Detains Northside Burglar

KHQ.COM - On January 15th, 2014, at 8:45 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Terry Liljenberg was advised by dispatch that an off-duty detective with the Sheriff’s Office was detaining a burglar near the 8600 block of North Whitehouse. Deputy Liljenberg arrived and detained 27-year-old Bart Bonebright in his patrol vehicle while he investigated the incident. The homeowner told Deputy Liljenberg that at about 8:30 a.m. his dog was barking for some reason in his back yard.

He said he checked his storage shed and saw several items gathered in two cloth bags on the ground from his shed. The homeowner looked inside the shed and saw Bonebright standing behind some boards in the corner of the shed. The homeowner yelled for his son to come outside and assist with Bonebright. The homeowner’s son ran to the detective’s house for help while the homeowner stayed with Bonebright.

The homeowner requested Bonebright’s wallet to identify him, a request Bonebright complied with. Deputy Liljenberg located several items inside the bags that came from the homeowner’s shed. He also located an expensive road bike next to a fence that he was able to link to a separate burglary at a neighboring residence.

Deputy Liljenberg also found two debit cards inside Bonebright’s wallet, one of which he was able to confirm had been stolen. Through Deputy Liljenberg’s lengthy investigation, he determined Bonebright had stolen items from two neighboring homes in the area. He also learned Bonebright had been very busy recently pawning several items such as bicycles, lawnmowers and power tools.

Bonebright was booked into jail for six felony charges of burglary and possession of stolen property as well as two additional misdemeanor charges. Bonebright is suspected in other burglaries and additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
