SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Gonzaga University women’s basketball senior Haiden Palmer poured in 26 points, while junior Sunny Greinacher posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards to lead the Bulldogs to a 68-40 win over the University of San Francisco Friday night at War Memorial Gymnasium.

The 28-point victory allowed the Zags to move to 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the West Coast Conference. The Dons, playing without two of its top three leading scorers, fell to 7-10 on the year and 2-4 in league.

Palmer registered her 14th double-figure game of the season and fourth 20-plus point outing with her game-high of 26 points. The guard was also two rebounds shy of a double-double, finishing with eight, and added three steals and one assist.

The double-double by Greinacher was her second of the year and career. The efficient forward from Essen, Germany sank 6-fo-10 from the field and one-of-two free throws for her 13 points and brought down seven defensive and three offensive rebounds.

As a team, Gonzaga outrebound San Francisco by the impressive advantage of 51-30, including the 26-9 edge on the offensive board. The Zags forced the Dons to turn the ball over 26 times, had 17 steals and 21 points off the miscues.

San Francisco did win the tip and hit a jumper on the opening play to take its only lead of the game.

The Dons were then held without a field goal for nearly the next eight minutes while Gonzaga rattled off a 15-point spurt to claim the 15-2 edge at 12:19. Gonzaga not only held the Dons to 1-of-8 shooting from the field but forced five turnovers during the stretch.

USF used a 9-2 run – spurred by Don Denae Mary William’s eight points - to get within four points of GU’s lead with 6:40 left before intermission.

A baseline jumper by Elle Tinkle started a 9-2 run by the Bulldogs though which ultimately ballooned into a 19-4 spurt that opened up a 16-point halftime advantage at 36-19 for Gonzaga. Five players scored during the important run, with Palmer tallying six and junior Keani Albanez closing out the half draining a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and three ticks remained on the game clock.

It took four minutes of play in the second half to get the Zags advantage above 20-points – where it stayed for the rest of the contest. Palmer keyed GU’s push, scoring six of its opening 10 points.

Thirteen players saw action in the second half, with six scoring, 10 grabbing a rebound and six picking up a steal. Tinkle grabbed five rebounds – the most of any player in the final stanza – while junior Lindsay Sherberthad two of her game-thing high four steals.

Gonzaga’s largest lead of the game was 29 points, hit with 3:24 left in the game on Palmer’s second 3-pointer of the contest.

Albanez was the only other Zag player to break double-figures, finishing with 12. She also had three steals and four rebounds.

San Francisco was led by Williams and Taylor Proctor. Williams came off the bench to scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Proctor chipped in 12 points and had four steals.

Gonzaga closes out its Bay area roadtrip at Santa Clara Sunday. The game is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on TheW.tv.
