Dower Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga University center Sam Dower Jr., who made his first two starts after coming off the bench for three games following a back injury, has been named the West Coast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.

He averaged 23.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg and became the 37th member of Gonzaga's 1,000-point club with 1,020 points to rank 36th.

He connect on 19-of-29 field goal attempts for 65.5 percent and averaged 2.5 assists/game and 1.5 blocks/game in leading the Bulldogs to a road sweep of Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University.

Dower Jr. connected on all seven attempts from the field at Pepperdine in an early battle for first place in the league standings and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. After a 1-for-6 start from the floor at Loyola Marymount, Dower Jr. finished 12-for-22 on his way to a career-high 28 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth career double-double performance.

The Bulldogs, alone atop the WCC standings at 6-1, return home this week to face the University of San Diego Thursday and BYU Saturday.
