SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane Police say they have arrested two suspects they believe are responsible for at least five of the eight  pharmacy robberies in the Spokane area this year.

A break in the investigation came Wednesday night when Spokane Police responded to the eighth pharmacy robbery this year in the Spokane area at the Albertsons on Indian Trail Road.

Witnesses told police a white man in his 20's had jumped over the pharmacy counter, grabbed prescription medication and fled the area in a silver Dodge. About 15 minutes later, someone in the area of Five Mile Road called to report they had found empty prescription medication bottles near Woodside and Elgin.

Investigators collected evidence from the robbery at Albertsons and cross-referenced that with detectives from the Spokane County Sheriff's Department and were able to identify the suspect's vehicle. Later, Spokane patrol units located the suspect's vehicle and stopped it near Division and Magnesium. The two occupants of the car, 33-year-old Jacy L. Thomson and 35-year-old Phillip Powlus, were arrested without incident.

A press release issued by Monique Cotton on Thursday indicated Thomson has five previous felony convictions, four for Robbery and one for Theft. Cotton said Powlus also has five previous felony convictions, three for Manufacturing/Deliver/Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, one for Possession of a Firearm, and one for Residential Burglary.

Detectives believe Thomson and Powlus are responsible for five of the eight pharmacy robberies to happen in the Spokane area in 2014. Three of those five have been at Albertsons on N. Division (1/04/14), E. Trent (1/16/14) and Wednesday night's robbery on N. Indian Trail Rd (1/22/14). Thursday evening Cotton put out another release saying detectives have officially requested charges for Thomson on two counts of 2nd Degree Robbery related to the robbery of the Safeway pharmacy on N. Market (1/4/14) and the Fred Meyer on S. Thor (1/5/14).

Detectives say they are continuing to investigate the three other pharmacy robberies to determine any possible connection.
